Couples Counseling
What is it…
Couples counseling is a type of psychotherapy in which a clinician with clinical experience working with couples, helps people involved in a romantic relationship gain insight into their relationship, resolve conflict, and improve relationship satisfaction utilizing a variety of therapeutic interventions. Although the practice of couples counseling may vary depending on the therapist’s theoretical orientation, all couples counseling tends to involve the following general elements:
A focus on a specific problem (i.e. communication, intimacy issues, addiction)
Active participation on the part of the clinician in treating the relationship itself, rather than each individual separately.
Solution-focused, change-oriented interventions early on in treatment.
A clear establishment of treatment goals.
All relationships are different and at Diversified Lifestyle Services (DLS) we are here to help you and your partner(s) better understanding one another. We approach our work with couples differently then others. We encourage couples to schedule their first appointment together and then we require an individual evaluation for both to determine their readiness for couples work. Usually by the third sessions the couples comeback together to discuss treatment planning.
